A Brief History of The Stella Academy of Acting

The Stella Adler Academy and Theatres are named in honor of one of the world’s foremost acting teachers. Theatre students and working professionals revere Stella Adler as one of the premiere masters of modern dramatic training interpretation.

In 1949, Ms. Adler, with her twin careers as an actress and director, established the New York Stella Adler Theatre School and taught an acting technique that was based on her personal work with Konstantin Stanislavski – a technique that nurtures the imagination of the actor.

In addition, Stella taught for many years at various locations here in Southern California. In 1985, the West Coast theatre and school opened its doors at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Argyle. In 1993, the school moved to its present location at 6773 Hollywood Boulevard, second floor, which in the 1930’s housed the famous Embassy Club.
