Student Michael Swinehart recently booked a part in the movie Saving Mr. Banks where he performed in a scene with Emma Thompson. The movie also stars Tom Hanks and is scheduled to be released in December 2013.

Alumnus David Gunning wrote, produced (alongside Jon Paul Burkhart), and starred in (alongside Gabrielle Christian) a film called, A 2nd Opinion. It will be competing at Cannes against other films including actors such as Ernie Hudson of Ghostbusters. The film is produced under David's company, Delco-Cut Productions.

Alumnus Kristian Van der Heyden has been busy acting and producing. His documentary will appear at Cannes Short Film Corner this year. It is about homeless children from Cheras, a suburb under construction near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (www.kaskprojecten.be/portactif/semalu/). Last year an AT&T commercial he assistant directed and co-produced was screened at Cannes Lions and this year a Coke Zero commercial he produced will appear.

He has also started his own organization, PORT ACTIF. Its purpose is to support Mixed Media Art from research to realization and beyond, with a focus on Performance Art, Film and Video Art (www.portactif.com).

Alumnus Orlando Chavez booked a guest starring role on Southland. The episode aired in Feb. 2013. He was also featured in a principal role in Teenage Bank Heist on Lifetime Movie Network.

Alumnus Matt Burkhart recently booked a recurring role on the BBC America show Copper. His role will last throughout Season 2. Matt has also starred in a feature film titled Victory that is set to be released Summer 2013; appeared in numerous TV appearances including The CW's Beauty and the Beast and various Canadian shows. Matt currently resides in Toronto.

Alumna Charlene Amoia recently booked booked the lead in the new feature film, Live Evil. Charlene will play "Hancock" the female lead opposite Candyman's Tony Todd.

You can also see Charlene in the new film, Scribble and in American Reunion where she played Kevin's (Thomas Ian Nicholas) wife Ellie. Other credits include The Mentalist, The Finder, Glee, Shameless, NCIS LA, iCarly, Mad Love, House MD and Castle.

Faculty/alumna Laura Leyva had a recurring character on the TBS comedy, Wedding Band. Laura has also appeared on ABC's Modern Family. She can also be seen in the SAG feature, The Sound of My Voice, and many commercials including: McDonalds, Home Depot (Spanish), and DeVry University.

Sky Moran Alumnus Iker Amaya (Ian McKelligan) booked a co-star role on Parks and Recreation. He appeared in Episode 10 of Season 5, which aired at the end 2012.

Sky Moran The late Bob Crane, Stella Adler alumnus and father of Adler alum Scott Crane interviewed Stella in the 1960s. The lost footage was recently discovered by Scott, along with Bob's notes from Stella's class.

Sky Moran Sky Moran has just finished a film for the Royal Shakespeare Company in England directed by Turner Prize Winner, Gillian Wearing OBE. He played the character Leontes. Past work includes a feature film called Zero. It was produced by Nicolas Roeg and directed by David Barrouk.

Eddy Salazar founded Welcome Home Productions and has produced three full-length feature films: The Extra starring Tyrone Power Jr., John Saxon and Stella Adler alumna Angela Oakenfold; Mansion of Blood starring Gary Busey, Robert Picardo, and Salazar himself; The Insomniac, a psychological thriller which he wrote, produced and starred in. All films are scheduled to be released in 2013. Eddy is also working on two unannounced romantic comedies executive produced by Christine Peters (EP of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Out of Towners).

Raja Deka Alumnus Raja Deka just finished filming a co-star spot on Fox's Arrested Development. Raja was also featured in the second season premiere of Homeland which aired on September 30, 2012. In addition, he recently worked on the feature film, G.I.JOE: Retaliation with Bruce Willis and a national Vitamin Water commercial. He also filmed the movie Posey with Sally Kirkland.

Jose Perea Current student Jose Perea was recently nominated for a "Best Supporting Actor Award" at Cerritos College for his role as St. Thomas in The Last Days of Judas Iscariot.


The film, The Black Tulip, was Afghanistan's official entry for the 2011 Academy Awards. It was written by Stella Adler-LA alumnus David Michael O’Neill. The film was also featured at Cinequest Film Festival 2012. A film festival held each year in San Jose featuring independent films from around the globe.

Henry Winkler Henry Winkler wasnamed an Honorary Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE). He was awarded the honor from the Queen (via British Ambassador Nigel Sheinwald) in recognition of his services to children with dyslexia and special educational needs. Winkler, who was diagnosed with dyslexia as an adult, is also the author of 17 children’s books centered on Hank Zipzer, a boy with dyslexia who overcomes his struggles at school and with bullies.
