Mission Statement
Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre - Los Angeles is a non-profit arts
organization dedicated to uplifting and enriching our collective humanity
through the dramatic arts. Driven by the belief that growth as an actor and
growth as a person are the same, our Academy & Theatre provides the tools,
training, and discipline to nurture and support actors who are committed
not only to the art form, but to a life of social engagement. In addition
to our teaching center, we offer public programming and extensive community
outreach, including free and low-cost performances for thousands of patrons
as well as some of the city's most underserved children, families and senior
citizens.
About Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre - Los Angeles
Over the last
25 years, we have grown from a grassroots acting school into a world-renowned
institution for acting and theatre. We are a family of artists and a community
of visionaries, and we believe in providing arts education and live performance
opportunities to people of all ages who might not otherwise have the opportunity
to experience live theatre. We are proud to contribute to community development
by devoting substantial resources to address the needs of underserved populations
and engage students in the arts.
As part of our general Outreach Program, Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre
- Los Angeles provides free school-day theatrical performances and artist
residences to low-income students throughout Los Angeles County. Due to Stella
Adler's location in an underserved, economically disadvantaged area (Hollywood
at Highland), our Children's Program prioritizes its outreach to neighborhood
schools within walking distance from the Academy's front door.
Other outreach and education initiatives includes: All Access/Pay-What-You-Can
Nights; Student and Senior Discounts; and Social ACTivism, our innovative
work study program that allows outstanding students to participate in our
Academy on scholarship by "paying it back" to the community.
